“Here he is, the man you’ve been waiting for at the disco, Mr. John Travolta, from the vintage year that keeps on giving (1977). He took me 20 minutes to draw. I love the story of Saturday Night Fever but I was quite late to the party when I watched it for the first time. You watch a few seconds of his feet walking down the street (famously NOT belonging to him, Dad tells me) and you’re hooked! “We feel the languorous pull of the discotheque… something deeply romantic: the need to move, the need to dance, the need to be who you’d like to be. Nirvana is the dance; when the music stops, you return to being ordinary.” The home disco is nearing last orders so as the British would say while ringing a very loud bell in your ear and turning on all the lights, “Can you start drinking up please? Can you start making a move now please?””

HOME DISCO series (2016)

“Yesterday was a good day. I’ve definitely turned the corner. I had the house to myself and it was very peaceful. I plucked up the courage to pump up the new boobs on my own. I don’t know why I was anxious. It is a laughable doddle and strangely addictive. Thank god you can’t overdo it!

I’ll expand on the expanders. The baby monitor/walkie talkie/key releases 10cc of CO2 from a compressed reservoir inside it. As I read this information I immediately thought of 10CC’s “It’s just a silly phase I’m going through”. Lasts about 10 days I’m told! (A brief detour from disco into soft rock.) Maximum input is 30cc a day. I reckon I felt a tiny bit sick afterwards but psychologically so much better. All these pills equal hardly any pain, just discomfort. And Dr. Plastic said I can resume exercise at 6 weeks and physio from now. Goals.

Do you remember the 21st night of September? Our hearts were ringing in the key that our souls were singing – I couldn’t say it better myself, Maurice White – so happy hump day to you!”

“I don’t want to live in the past but it is a nice place to visit. AGREED! And so the Home Disco continues… This man is a legend. He formed Chic in 1977 (what an amazing year) and went on to produce so much more. I love this quote from Noel Gallagher, “My favourite act at this year’s Glastonbury [2013], when I went, was not the Rolling Stones, as great as they were; was not the Arctic Monkeys, as good as they were; was not Disclosure, as good as they were; but it was Chic. They were… mega. Absolutely out of this world.” So here’s Nile Rodgers (Chic) for your Tuesday. The sun’s out, the smile should be on your face, everybody dance!”

HOME DISCO series (2016)

“Can you feel it? Good question, Michael! The answer is twofold: yes and no.

On the inside of my chest it doesn’t feel very nice, especially after a long night without pills. It feels a lot like warm poured concrete into creaking, crunchy bags of hard plastic – about a B cup’s worth. The expanders are sitting behind my chest wall as there is no tissue left to support them. They cut the pectoral muscle a bit and “excavated” to get them in. On the outside I can’t feel much, as there are few nerves left, just a pressure to the touch. I’ve noticed that the left boob has a lot more feeling than the right one, and for a lot closer in towards the nipple. The nips themselves are amazing (maybe because I blessed them?) and doing such a great job at staying alive! They seem to be reacting normally even though I can’t feel them. The scars run under them and out to the side and are minimal. Going forward daily massage is meant to encourage the return of sensation so we’ll see about that! Checking in with team Plastic Fantastic on Tuesday.”

DONNA SUMMER (2016)

I WILL PREVIVE [The Book Of Rocks] diary extract, 7 September 2016

HOME DISCO series (2016)

“I was very happy to see the friendly faces of my surgeons on Monday to take all my troubles away. I sat as still as a statue in the hospital waiting room just hoping I wouldn’t chuck everywhere (Endone). Classy AND fun. I didn’t see any other faces there that I recognised this week. I think that’s one of the strangest things about Melbourne: how a city 100km wide with 5 million people can seem so small. I can not tell you how many bizarre coincidences have happened to me over the years to make it shrink. The chances of two people being in the same place at the same time on the same day should be absolutely minuscule, right? But no, no way, not here in this big Aussie town. Or maybe it’s just that the degrees of separation are getting smaller and smaller in modern society? But I digress…

X Endone

✔ Targin

X Drains

X Dressings

X Socks

X Cancer cells

Soothe my mind and set me free! Here’s the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, for your hump day.”
