MAKE ‘EM ROLL

Tuffy is a Roller Derby Queen and one heavy-duty machine! This bleach-blonde bomber is lean and mean and knows how to scuffle and fight. Magnetic, luminous, unbreakable, she skates the arena under rainbow neon light. Disco ball crown and high-heeled wheels glow. Nothing can stop her: make those wheels roll!

Make ‘Em Roll in Momentum, Long Gallery, Montsalvat

This painting was inspired in part by the song, Roller Derby Queen, by American singer-songwriter, Jim Croce, and a moment during one of my many recoveries at roller skate and blade rink, Skaterz, Eltham, Victoria, where I was too weak and fragile to stand up. The lights, music and movement from the seated sidelines made me feel a hundred years old!

Exhibited in Momentum presented by Thou Art Mum (TAM) at Long Gallery, Montsalvat, 7 Hillcrest Avenue, Eltham, Victoria, 8 June – 6 July 2021
